BEHIND THE LINES:
from North Africa to Germany
Major Fredric Convery, A.U.S.(Ret.)
Convery has written a story of a war but not a war story. Horror stories
of World War II abound, but the major recorded the war from a different
viewpoint¾ what life was like behind the front lines as an officer in the
439th Anti-Aircraft Battalion. He eventually served as liaison between the
AA Brigade and 64th Fighter Wing developing the Early Warning Radar System.
Censorship prevented recording details of military activities, so Convery
described the backdrop of the war as he wrote daily to his wife Esta.
Readers will get a unique perspective of the U.S. Army during wartime,
juxtaposed with vignettes of everyday life that continued despite a world
war.
