THE GREAT DEPRESSION AND A TEENAGER’S FIGHT TO SURVIVE
Duval A. Edwards
During the Great Depression, Edwards left Tioga, Louisiana, in September
1932 at the age of sixteen. He took writings with him, expecting to land a
job with a newspaper and to send money to his family, but he soon realized
he was not the only young man seeking work. One newspaper editor told him,
"Come back when you’ve lived a little longer and had a few experiences."
Edwards is back, with the story of his adventures of yesterday, a story for
young people, a story for the homeless, and a story of how a runaway youth
became the youngest lawyer in San Antonio, Texas, history.
