THE SENATOR AND THE RUNAWAY TEENAGER IN THE GREAT DEPRESSION
Duval A. Edwards
The sequel continues the story of a teenager's fight to survive the Great
Depression. Living alone on $3 a week, the author finished high school and
entered law school at age 17. However, when his father died, Edwards brought
his family to San Antonio. Struggling as family head, he worked his way
through law school to become a lawyer at age 21. The book tells of many who
helped, notably Senator Harry Hertzberg, who left to San Antonio, his native
city, the uniquely valuable Hertzberg Circus Museum. This insider's view of
the life and times of Harry Hertzberg is fascinating. Imagine being a kid
whose boss threw a dinner party for all the performers in the Ringling
Brothers, Barnum & Bailey Circus, meeting stars Tom Mix and lion tamer Clyde
Beatty, and driving his boss cross-country to see America in the 1930s. This
is a valuable addition to a balanced view of the Great Depression.
